Additional front Rollcage section added to Morgan Plus 8 RPU 164R

Morgan RPU 164RPhillip brought his Lightweight Morgan Plus 8 to RS Fabrications for the additional front rollcage section required by the MSA. RPU 164R is number 16 of only 19 Morgan Factory produced production Plus 8 Sports Lightweights. “Launched at the Earls Court Motorshow in 1975 they were the first production models to feature lightweight alloy body panels, with the intended use of club motorsport”. explained Phillip.

” I began to share the car with my son Robert [who is over 6ft] and althgough  I may choose to risk my own neck, I would certainly take no chances with my son’s”.

The other point to be noted is that the “Blue Book” is definative, as drawings 3/4, page 173 of the 2009 issue, clearly state that “sports cars over 2000 cc must have a full cage”.

Russell notes, “some Morgan circles claim dispensation on this rule, but we have never seen any documentation to support this!” also ” the addition of the front cage section adds to the rigidity and performance of the Morgan Plus 8 Lightweight, which is a huge bonus for very little weigh addition.”

Phillip commented ” Shane did an excellent installation of the front cage. Mandrel bends and fully Tig welded construction, all under the refines of the hard top we currently run. Indeed ,many track side scrutineer’s have commented on the excellence of the welding.”

Phillip continued “As we were so pleased with the standard of work, and the attention to detail, we subsequently has RS Fabrications fit and FIA spec cage, and carry out seam welding, on our 1965 Shelby GT 350.”

Thanks Phillip. It will be good to see you and Robert on ther rostrum in 2009!
